Vancouver, British Columbia – A breakthrough clinical trial is in progress to determine if the distinct, naturally-occurring mineral deposit, SierraSil™ is an effective treatment for osteoarthritis.
Results may enable researchers to validate findings from an unpublished pilot study, which demonstrated the ability of SierraSil alone and SierraSil with Vincaria® to benefit patients with osteoarthritis (OA). Vincaria® (Uncaria guianensis) is an extract of Cat’s claw, a medicinal herb traditionally used by the indigenous people of South America for joint health and well-being.
In the current double blind, randomized placebo controlled study there are 120 patients, all 20 years of age or older and who are diagnosed with OA of the knee. Patients are separated into 4 groups (Placebo, SierraSil 1 and SierraSil 2, and SierraSil with Vincaria).
“From positive results of the pilot study testing the safety and efficacy of SierraSil and Vincaria we encouraged this larger patient study to further evaluate its potential benefits with osteoarthritis,” says Mark Miller, Ph.D., Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences and Pediatrics at Albany Medical College (NY). Miller is a current grant reviewer for research for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Human clinical trials have shown that Vincaria is an effective treatment in patients diagnosed with OA. In a multicenter, double blind, placebo controlled trial, it was shown to be an effective treatment in patients diagnosed with OA (Piscoya J, Rodriguez, Miller MJ, et. al: Efficacy and safety of freeze-dried cat's claw in osteoarthritis of the knee: mechanisms of action of the species Uncaria guianensis. Inflammation Research, 50:442-8, 2001).
SierraSil, a unique blend of more than 65 naturally-occurring macro and trace minerals, promotes joint mobility, flexibility, and active lifestyles.* After analyzing SierraSil, renowned mineralogist Dr. Haydn Murray reported, “In my more than 50 years of mineral research, I have never seen a combination of minerals like this before.”
