Oct. 22, 2002, LaGrange, IL – Cognis Nutrition and Health will host a series of special events to showcase its broader range of products, services and capabilities, including a featured presentation by NBC’s Today Show contributor, Elizabeth Somer, M.A.,RD, at the annual SupplySide West International Trade Show & Conference on Dec.4-6, 2002 in Las Vegas.
Big changes have taken place at Cognis in the last year or so, and company leaders are looking to SupplySide as a perfect venue to launch new programs demonstrating that Cognis Nutrition and Health has grown to be more than a leading supplier of natural-source antioxidants to the dietary supplement industry.
Today, the Nutrition and Health division also is one of the world’s leading providers of nature-based ingredients for pharmaceuticals and healthcare, functional foods and medical nutrition, and animal nutrition. As a leader in food technology, Cognis manufactures emulsifiers, emulsifier-based compounds, and numerous other specialty products for the food industry around the globe.
The spotlight is on the Nutrition and Health business unit within the new Cognis organization where the focus is on restructuring around market segments to serve a global customer base with innovative solutions. After Cognis was established as a carve-out from Henkel KGaA, it was acquired about a year ago by private equity funds advised by Permira, GS Capital Partners, and Schroder Ventures Life Sciences. “Their goal is to grow Cognis and add value and they’ve been true to their words as evidenced by our recent acquisitions and investments,” explained Paul Allen, Group Vice President, Cognis Nutrition and Health.
Mr. Allen explained that one way Cognis hopes to offer extra value to its customers and others is through its ongoing commitment to education. As the official education sponsor of SupplySide West, Cognis encourages participation in the various sessions on topics ranging from science to consumer marketing trends. Cognis will be providing a complimentary continental breakfast at its VendorWorks session: “The New Scientific Approach to Weight Management Supplements,” on Dec. 5 at 8:00-8:50 a.m. in room 603. Cindy Schweitzer, Ph.D., Cognis’ Senior Scientist; and Kathleen Moran, Cognis’ Market Segment Manager, Dietary Supplements, will present “A Checklist for Creating Phytosterol Products,“ from 10:00-10:50 a.m. also on Dec. 5 in room 603. Dr. Schweitzer will then discuss “Carotenoids and Eye Health” during a scientific session on Dec. 6 from 9:00-9:50 a.m. in room 503.
Cognis Nutrition and Health leaders will present a brief overview of new initiatives planned to help enhance their customers’ businesses before introducing guest speaker, Elizabeth Somer, on Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. to noon in room 806, in the lower level of the Venetian Hotel, just steps away from the trade show floor. Ms. Somer, a registered dietitian, will discuss her perspectives on dietary supplements and functional foods. As a best-selling author of nutrition and health books as well as more than 300 magazine articles, she has earned national recognition and awards for her writing.
Attendees will be invited to a complimentary wine and cheese reception following Ms. Somer’s presentation and will also receive a free special gift.
A video overview of Cognis Nutrition and Health, including a segment with state-of-the- art animated illustrations explaining the difference between natural and synthetic vitamin E, will be featured on the convention channel, which can be seen on televisions in the Venetian hotel rooms.
