BURLINGTON, Mass. - Independent Consumer & Professional Advocacy Group Taps TNP Credibility for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Information --
HealthGate Data Corp., (OTCBB: HGAT), a market-leading provider and electronic publisher of healthcare information for health-related organizations, today announced it signed a licensing agreement with ConsumerLab.com, an independent firm that provides test results and information to help consumers and healthcare professionals evaluate health and nutrition products. As part of the agreement, ConsumerLab.com has licensed HealthGate's complete "The Natural Pharmacist" (TNP) content suite, which includes an expansive encyclopedia on supplements and herbs, and a database on drug interactions between natural and traditional medicines.
" 'The Natural Pharmacist' perfectly complements our mission to identify the best quality health and nutrition products through independent testing," said Tod Cooperman, MD, president of ConsumerLab.com. "Our subscribers can now use TNP to learn whether a natural product is right for them and then access ConsumerLab.com's Product Reviews to see which brands are best. With its comprehensive, up-to-date and easy-to-understand information on natural health products, TNP meets our tough standards for unbiased, high-integrity and evidence-based information."
Subscribers to ConsumerLab.com will have broad access to The Natural Pharmacist content, which includes information on vitamins, supplements and natural health remedies, as well as comprehensive information on herbal and traditional drug interactions.
"ConsumerLab.com and HealthGate bring an unparalleled level of credibility to the often subjective field of natural and alternative medicine," said Bill Reece, HealthGate's CEO. "By offering subscribers access to TNP's unbiased information, ConsumerLab.com is helping to arm consumers and health professionals alike with the tools they need to make informed choices about alternative and natural health resources."
According to a recent Journal of American Pharmaceutical Association(1) article, approximately 50 percent of Americans are purchasing herbal supplements, yet more than 70 percent never mention their use of these supplements to their physicians, potentially increasing health risks.
TNP's evidence-based content is developed and reviewed by a team of physicians and pharmacologists with the goal of providing reliable information without hype, exaggeration, selective reporting or misrepresentation.
ConsumerLab.com, LLC ("CL") provides independent test results and information to help consumers and healthcare professionals evaluate health, wellness, and nutrition products. It publishes results of its tests online at www.consumerlab.com, including listings of brands that have passed testing. Products that pass CL's testing are eligible to bear the CL Seal of Approval. CL addresses a growing need of consumers and healthcare professionals for better information to guide the selection of health, wellness, and nutrition products.
