Athens, Greece, August 4, 2004 – The results of a study on the impact of CortiSlim® on weight loss and mood elevation were presented on June 10, 2004 at the 5th International Conference on Nutrition & Fitness in Athens.
“This meeting of the international nutrition community had a virtual who's who of the international nutrition scene” Dr. Shawn Talbott, Ph.D. reported, “We were pleased to present our data to this esteemed group of scientists and health professionals.”
Dr. Talbott conducted a 12-week double blind placebo controlled clinical study to evaluate the effect of “a commercially available anti-stress, weight loss dietary supplement (CortiSlim®, Window Rock Health Laboratories, Yorba Linda, CA, USA) - versus placebo - on measures of stress/mood, cortisol, body weight, and body composition.”
Fifty subjects enrolled in the program (42 women and 8 men) and were randomly assigned to receive the CortiSlim supplement or a matching placebo. Subjects were specifically recruited from among volunteers who had tried and failed to lose weight on other popular programs, or who had lost weight, but regained it within the past year. These “tough cases” were recruited to investigate the additive benefits of controlling cortisol within a program of diet and exercise and supplementation for weight loss. The subjects consumed two CortiSlim capsules per day (One each at breakfast & lunch) for 12 weeks while adhering to a regulated diet and exercise regimen.
Before, during and after the 12-week program, the researchers measured:
Body fat percentage
Profile of mood states
Salivary cortisol (Cortisol/stress exposure has been associated with increased appetite and abdominal adiposity.)
Compared to the placebo group, the group receiving CortiSlim lost 9 times as much weight as the control group and experienced a 2 times greater fat loss and inches lost from the mid-section. The Cortislim group also noted a 15% improvement in overall mood and a 20% reduction in cortisol levels. Results of this 12-week weight loss program suggest that when combined with a comprehensive diet and exercise regimen, an “anti-stress/cortisol-control” dietary supplement such as CortiSlim is able to enhance positive changes in mood, cortisol, body weight, body fat, and waist circumference.
The proceedings of the meeting and some of the Cortislim study results will be published in the Fall/Winter edition of the World Review of Nutrition and Dietetics.
CortiSlim was developed by Dr. Shawn Talbott, Ph.D., nutritional biochemist and author of The Cortisol Connection, the groundbreaking book which explained the connection between daily stress, the development of the fat-storing hormone cortisol and its role in abdominal weight gain.
