WASHINGTON, D.C., June 3, 2008 — The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) today announced two keynote speakers for its 2008 annual symposium on dietary supplements, The Conference, taking place October 2-5, at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, N. M. David W.K. Acheson, M.D., and Josephine P. Briggs, M.D., will deliver presentations during The Conference’s opening session on the morning of Friday, October 3.
Dr. Acheson serves as the associate commissioner for foods under the Office of the Commissioner at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Acheson’s presentation will focus on the agency’s efforts to protect the nation’s food supply in a global economic environment.
Dr. Briggs, the new director at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), will outline her vision for NCCAM in the upcoming years and explore how the study of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) fits in the context of rigorous science.
The Conference has a reputation for its exceptional programming particularly relevant to ingredient suppliers and finished product manufacturers in the supplement industry. In addition to the two keynote speakers, CRN will soon be announcing the rest of the three-day program which will include a panel on marketing trends, perspectives on the future political outlook, a panel featuring industry CEOs, and more.
Bill Van Dyke, chairman and CEO of B&D Nutritional Ingredients, will serve as this year’s annual conference chair. Mr. Van Dyke is a current CRN board member and past CRN chairman, and succeeds John Venardos (Herbalife) and Tom Zimmerman (Pharmavite) as the annual conference chair and master of ceremonies. “Not only is this conference an excellent opportunity for company executives to gain timely industry perspectives and hear from relevant, motivating speakers,” said Mr. Van Dyke, “but The Conference also provides a superb networking opportunity for supplement industry executives who particularly value the networking time built in to the conference schedule.”
