The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and VIRGO announced details for an industry-wide webinar on the hottest topics affecting the supplement industry.

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and VIRGO announced details for an industry-wide webinar on one of the hottest topics affecting the supplement industry: FDA’s NDI Guidance Document and Its Impact on the Dietary Supplement Industry—to be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. EDT.

The webinar, moderated by Duffy MacKay, N.D., vice president, scientific and regulatory affairs, CRN, will provide attendees with an in-depth review of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) draft guidance—which was released publicly on today. The aim of this webinar will be to provide the industry with an overview of FDA’s step-by-step process for reviewing NDI Notifications, to examine the current FDA thinking regarding the NDI guidance, to offer a legal perspective on the NDI guidance, and to detail tips and best practices for successful NDI Notifications.

A panel comprised of legal and regulatory experts—Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., director, Division of Dietary Supplement Programs, FDA (Invited); Dan Levy, FDA (Invited); Ashish Talati, J.D., M.S., RAC, partner, Amin Talati, LLC; James E. Hoadley, Ph.D., senior consultant, EAS Consulting Group, LLC—will share their knowledge of the guidance document from a variety of vantage points.

“Throughout our five year partnership with VIRGO, we have had the opportunity on these webinars to dissect in a compelling and thoughtful manner several important topics and regulatory issues. The long-awaited NDI guidance is a topic of critical importance to the dietary supplement industry and we are pleased to be able to offer this webinar to industry executives as they seek to understand the complexities of the new guidance document and review process,” said Steve Mister, president & CEO, CRN.

The registration fee—$149 for CRN members and $199 for non-members—is a per registration site fee, meaning multiple people may participate in the webinar from a single site, such as a company’s conference room. This fee also includes unlimited access to the on-demand recording of the webinar for 90 days. A promotional discount of $25 will be offered to participants taking more than one CRN/VIRGO webinar in 2011. Participants who purchase the webinar before July 15 will also receive a $25 early bird special discount.

These webinars mark a continuation of a webinar partnership between CRN and VIRGO that began in 2007. The second scheduled webinar of 2011 is slated to be held on November 8 and will cover a topic to be announced at a later date. Additionally, a third date, December 8, has been reserved for a possible third webinar in 2011.
