The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) announced Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., director, Division of Dietary Supplement Programs, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will kick off the conference by providing the Keynote Address on its opening day.

 

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) announced Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., director, Division of Dietary Supplement Programs, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will help Daniel Fabricantkick off The Conference: CRN’s Annual Symposium for the Dietary Supplement Industry by providing the Keynote Address on its opening day, Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) announced Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., director, Division of Dietary Supplement Programs, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will help kick off The Conference: CRN’s Annual Symposium for the Dietary Supplement Industry by providing the Keynote Address on its opening day, Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. The Conference starts with an evening reception on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 22, directly following The Workshop: CRN’s Day of Science, a full-day symposium on Oct. 19.

Dr. Fabricant, who recently joined FDA following stints at the Natural Products Association and ConsumerLab.com, will address the Agency’s priorities for the dietary supplement industry, including FDA’s perspective on the newly-released and controversial draft guidance for New Dietary Ingredients (NDIs). At the agency, Dr. Fabricant is responsible for the full implementation of DSHEA through the interpretation and enforcement of dietary supplement requirements that ensure the safety and truthful labeling of dietary supplements support legislative compliance, enforcement and public affairs initiatives.

“The dietary supplement and nutrition products industries are facing new and serious challenges, as evidenced by publication of FDA's draft NDI guidance and the recent introduction of S. 1310 by Senator Richard Durbin,” said John Venardos, chairman of The Conference and senior vice president, Worldwide Regulatory, Government and Industry Affairs, Herbalife, Ltd. “We are appreciative that Dr. Fabricant will engage with our participants at this industry-wide conference, and his insights will set the stage for a lively, provocative and informative meeting.”
