Decas Botanical Synergies Introduces NutriCran-GI Synergistic Fruit Powder Blend for Supporting and Enhancing Gastro-Intestinal Health

Study finds Optimal Formulation of "Best-in-Class" Cranberry, Grape Seed, and Wild Blueberry for Inhibiting Helicobacter Pylori - the Leading Cause of Peptic Ulcer

LAS VEGAS & WAREHAM, Mass., Sep 29, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Decas Botanical Synergies (DBS), a division of Decas Cranberry Products, Inc., today introduced NutriCran-GI(TM), a synergistic fruit powder blend for supporting and enhancing gastro-intestinal health. NutriCran-GI is an optimal formulation of "Best in Class" cranberry, grape seed, and wild blueberry. The proprietary blend is made up of DBS' cranberry powder, Polyphenolic's MegaNatural(R) Gold grape seed extract, and Durham Research, Inc.'s BluePhenolic(TM) wild blueberry powder known for their superior quality and health-promoting properties. Polyphenolics is a division of Constellation Wines U.S.

A recent laboratory study determined that NutriCran-GI is significantly more potent in inhibiting Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria in vitro when compared to single antimicrobial compounds. These data support the likelihood that NutriCran-GI may be more effective in managing H. pylori infections in humans (Vattem et al. 2004, Process Biochemistry, In press).

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, H. pylori bacteria are believed to be responsible for the majority of peptic ulcers and have also recently been linked to cardiovascular diseases. One in 10 Americans develops an ulcer at some time in his or her life and greater than 50% of those over 60 years old and about 20% of those under the age of 40 years old are infected with H. pylori bacteria. The current treatment for peptic ulcers involves the combination of antibiotics, acid suppressors, and stomach protectors. Antibiotic regimens recommended for patients may differ across regions of the world because different areas have begun to show resistance to particular antibiotics.

NutriCran-GI Market Applications and Benefits

NutriCran-GI's market applications include but are not limited to: nutritional supplements, enriched sports drinks and functional beverages, fortified nutrition bars, and healthy snacks. Among the potential beneficial health attributes of NutriCran-GI include: bacterial anti-adhesion properties, support of gastro-intestinal and urinary tract health, a superior source of antioxidants, natural fruit source, rich in flavonoids, low in calories, high in phytonutrients, and made with natural and GRAS ingredients.

"We've worked in concert with university collaborators and our partners in developing the superior formula of NutriCran-GI," said Doug Klaiber, DBS's General Manager. "NutriCran-GI is the result of our science-driven product development approach which focuses on condition-specific health issues. DBS has instituted a technology platform which is based on protocols for: growing better raw materials, formulating synergistic GRAS products, manufacturing methods based on patented or proprietary processes, and proving the health effectiveness of our products."

NutriCran-GI will be showcased at DBS's booth #1261 and by DBS's exclusive U.S. distributor, PL Thomas booth #1101, at Supply Side West 2004 in Las Vegas, NV September 30th and October 1st.
