Dow AgroSciences LLC, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), announces that the company has won first prize in the XIV Andef Award competition, Good Agricultural Practices category, for its Responsible Application Program which was developed in partnership with UNESP/Botucatu University, Brazil.
This is the top award for sustainability in Brazilian agriculture and demonstrates the company’s commitment to excellence in stewardship around the globe. The Andef award was created to honor institutions that consider sustainability as an opportunity to act, translating value in good practices.
The Dow AgroSciences Responsible Application program focuses on hands-on training and awareness for Brazilian crop protection product applicators with regard to proper agrochemical application, especially as it relates to off-target product movement.
“Winning this award demonstrates that our efforts to promote responsible application in the field are bringing positive results,” said John Cuffe, Global Regulatory Sciences and Government Affairs Leader, Dow AgroSciences. “This is an example of Dow AgroSciences’ global commitment to stewardship of our products and technology as we bring forward solutions needed by farmers around the world.”
“The companies and other agricultural sector entities have a very important role in the construction of sustainability in the field. When establishing awareness and social responsibility programs, companies transmit this value to all of their employees, providers and especially to rural producers. It is a large multiplication channel,” said Jose Annes Marinho, education manager of Andef Agrochemicals Industry Association.
In addition to the Good Agricultural Practices category, Andef also recognized actions developed by professionals in the field with a focus on the correct and safe use of chemicals. Denis Silveira, technical sales representative of Dow AgroSciences in Brazil, was honored for a partnership with Inpev and distributors (Marca Agropecuaria e Boi Gordo Agropecuaria) where they focused on raising awareness with cattle producers about the importance of returning empty agrochemical packages. This effort was held at ExpoAcre, one of most important cattle raising events in this region, attended by more than 250,000 people.
