Dr. Kevin Maki, President of Biofortis-Provident, was invited to speak at a pre-conference sponsored by the American Society of Nutrition (ASN) on Friday, April 8. The forum was entitled "Heart Healthy Omega-3s for Food: Stearidonic Acid (SDA) as a Sustainable Choice."
Joining other recognized experts in the field of nutrition, Dr. Maki addressed "Dose- and Time-Dependent Relationships between SDA Intake, the Omega-3 Index, and Inflammatory Markers."
ASN is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together the world's top researchers, clinical nutritionists, and industry to advance the knowledge and application of nutrition for the sake of humans and animals.
This forum presented the latest scientific research on the health and food application benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, with an emphasis on stearidonic acid. The meeting increased understanding of the current and emerging knowledge regarding the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, with a focus on stearidonic acid (SDA) and eicosapenaeonic acid (EPA), underscored the importance of increasing omega-3 consumption in the U.S. and the current challenges of doing so via mainstream foods and build awareness of the health and food application benefits of stearidonic acid as (1) a pro-EPA and (2) a plant-based, sustainable source of omega-3 fatty acids for mainstream foods.
