DSEA Elects 2004 Officers; Joins Coalition to Preserve DSHEA

The Dietary Supplement Education Alliance (DSEA) has elected officers for 2004. The recommended slate of officers was elected unanimously. New officers are: President, Elliott Balbert, President and CEO, Natrol; Vice President, Jon Benninger, Business Development Director, Virgo Publishing; Secretary/Treasurer, Michael McGuffin, President, AHPA. “We’re looking forward to a big year in terms of major activities”, said Michael McGuffin. “With our 2004 focus on communicating the benefits of dietary supplements to members of Congress, we’ll be commissioning a major economic impact report, providing educational activities on the Hill, and following up with each congressional office every month.”

In addition, the DSEA voted unanimously to become an industry association member of the newly formed Coalition to Preserve DSHEA. “It’s a critical time for our industry and we’re pleased to become a part of this coalition” said Jon Benninger. “DSEA has always encouraged industry members to cooperate for mutual benefit, and we see this as an excellent opportunity to work together to achieve an essential goal.”

The DSEA is an alliance funded by more than 70 companies within the dietary supplement industry, and is led by a board of directors that includes manufacturers, suppliers, trade associations, educational institutions and industry media. The DSEA mission is to improve public health by communicating the benefits of dietary supplements.
