DSM, the leading nutritional ingredients supplier is showcasing its complete omega-3 portfolio at Supply Side West 2012, Las Vegas. DSM’s acquisition of Ocean Nutrition Canada and integration of the Meg-3 omega-3 fatty acids derived from fish oil allows DSM to expand its existing algal based portfolio of omega-3 fatty acids making it the global leader in omega-3 solutions.
According to Jim Hamilton, president of DSM Nutritional Products, USA, “We are very pleased to welcome Ocean Nutrition to our family. This is an exciting time for both DSM and our customers. Our investment in omega-3 fatty acids is not only a testament to our commitment to the nutraceuticals industry and our focus on innovation and science but also what it means for our customers is a wealth of opportunities!”
According to Joe Laplaca, vice president of dietary supplements sales and marketing at DSM Nutritional Products NA, “Consumer awareness of omega-3 is at an all-time high. Yet, U.S. diets are significantly low in omega-3 consumption. Science continues to solidify around the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids particularly, DHA for brain and prenatal health and EPA/DHA for cardiac health. This lends to the tremendous growth we have seen in the omega-3 market. DSM’s life’sDHA (algal based omega-3) and now fish based Meg-3 omega3 in addition to our existing ROPUFA branded fish oil in combination with our expertise in application specific forms means we have a complete portfolio of ingredients we can offer to our customers to capitalize on this growing market.”
