EPAX Garners Nutrition Business Journal's Scientific Achievement Award

Omega-3 Supplier Recognized for Study Confirming EPAX 1050 TG Effective in Preventing Alzheimer's Disease Patients' Memory Decline

AALESUND, Norway (July 23, 2007) — A study published in the Oct. 2006 issue of Archives of Neurology that showed a supplement from highly concentrated omega-3 oil supplier, EPAX AS, was effective in preventing memory decline in Alzheimer's disease patients was the focus of a recent award.

As natural products industry leaders gathered at Nutrition Business Journal's Newport Summit last week, the winners of the 2006 NBJ Business Achievement Awards were recognized, including EPAX, which won in the scientific achievement category.

"We were honoured to win this award from Nutrition Business Journal," said Bjorn Refsum, CEO of EPAX AS. "The NBJ Business Achievement Awards always recognize the best of the industry; we're pleased to be included in this group. We appreciate that this important study recognizing EPAX 1050 TG's role in preventing memory decline in Alzheimer's disease patients is further acknowledged."

In addition to being published in the Archives of Neurology, the study was also presented at the 10th International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders in Madrid, Spain by Yvonne Freund-Levi, MD, of the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. It monitored 204 patients with early-stage Alzheimer's disease randomly given EPAX 1050 TG or placebo. Study results showed that patients with early stage Alzheimer's disease given the EPAX concentrate experienced no further memory decline, while patients on placebo continued to deteriorate.

A later report from this study was presented recently in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and showed significant effects of EPAX 1050 TG on psychiatric symptoms. This is an important finding since agitation and hallucination are severe symptoms that add to the memory decline in these patients, making the Alzheimer's patient even more alienated to the society.
