The E.T. Horn Company, a leading national distributor, supplier, marketer, and manufacturer of specialty ingredients announced that Lisa Alley-Zarkades, vice president of the company's Animal Wellness Group, has been appointed to the Dean's Council at California Polytechnic University, Pomona. She was selected as one of seven charter members that will serve these positions.
The Dean's Council is affiliated with Cal Poly's College of Agriculture and is comprised of select, highly regarded industry leaders that have shown remarkable interest in the perpetual success of the university. The group meets approximately four times annually and is paramount in establishing department strategies and reviewing advancement proposals.
"I am pleased and grateful to announce that Lisa will play an integral role within our organization," said Lester C. Young, Dean of Cal Poly's College of Agriculture. "It's great to see one of our own become a very successful businesswoman and then return to give back to the university."
Lisa earned a B.S. degree in Foods and Nutrition from Cal Poly, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and was the College of Agriculture's valedictorian in 1982. Her career includes senior sales/territory management at both Avebe America and A.E. Staley Manufacturing, along with her current vice presidency at The E.T. Horn Company. Other affiliations include being a board member of the World Pet Association; a member of The Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse; and a professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT).
Considering Alley-Zarkades' extensive career within the food industry, the Cal Poly Dean's Council appears to be a unique fit for someone of her character and expertise.
"2010 was quite a year for E.T. Horn considering we launched the new Animal Wellness Group," she said. "And yet, I am extremely honored and excited to return to my alma mater and lend a hand to the cause."
