Supply Focus Expands At Expo
Suppliers and manufacturers attending the Natural Products Expo East in Washington DC this September 4 to 7 will find more educational and networking opportunities, as well as an expanded Supply at Expo table-top event.
"These events and networking opportunities create a dynamic environment for buyers and sellers in the global supply marketplace that are linking our trade shows and publications in the US, Europe and Asia," says Susan Haeger, director of global industry affairs for New Hope Natural Media, the show's organiser.
Supply at Expo will provide a new forum for ingredients buyers and finished products manufacturers to meet with suppliers and manufacturers from Europe and Asia. In the show floor theatre, FF&N will present live versions of its Global Dispatches on Latin America, Africa and China. "As companies increasingly source and connect across the globe, we want to address regulatory and market issues that will give buyers the information they need to make informed buying decisions," says Haeger. "As part of New Hope's focus on quality standards, we will host a delegation of Chinese regulatory officials, trade representatives and manufacturers to facilitate dialogue with US ingredients suppliers, manufacturers, industry members and regulatory officials." To address the controversy surrounding the quality of Chinese ingredients and products, Professor Ren DeQuan, deputy commissioner of the State Food and Drug Administration, will present new information on China's recently implemented GMPs and GAPs.
Education Focused On R&D
The education programme will include a four-day menu of seminars geared toward both US and international manufacturers. Among the highlights is a technical Nutracon session, designed for formulators, and research and development teams on "The search for a superior calcium: An evidence-based inquiry." The session will look at the controversy over which form of calcium is better with speakers presenting current science related to bioavailability, solubility, elemental percentages, and other variables.
Other highlights include a session entitled, "Dietary Supplements and the EU Directive." Simon Pettman, executive director of the International Alliance of Dietary Supplements Ass-ociations and Martin Last, vice chairman of HFMA, will detail current information on compliance and specifics on upcoming regulatory issues.
