Fashion in focus at in-cosmetics 2010

Fashion will be put under the beauty microscope at next year’s in-cosmetics show, the leading global business platform for personal care ingredients. Taking place in Paris, the fashion capital of the world, from 13-15 April 2010, the exhibition’s visionary feature, in-focus, will explore the creative synergies between the worlds of fashion and beauty, to showcase the latest concepts in personal care and inspire future trends.

in-focus is the show’s popular central visitor feature, and the 2010 installment looks set to continue this success. Using ingredients as the source of creativity, it is a platform where formulating chemists, product designers and marketers come together to see, touch and smell what the future holds for the industry.

Visitors will embark on an inspirational journey through a festival of truly sensorial textures designed as creative new fabrics and colours directly inspired by fashion and fragrance trends, creating a genuine global "trend book" of the industry made up of creams, gels, elixirs and powders.

This year in-focus is collaborating with design and advertising agency Carlin International to predict three of the fashion trends for 2011, based on the creative work of both avant-garde and renowned haute couture designers. Using these as inspiration, breakthrough technologies, novel ingredients and creative ideas will be on display from a number of the industry’s largest suppliers, formulation laboratories and private label companies, including Arch Personal Care Products, ABC Texture, Affix, BASF, Creations Couleurs, Croda Group, Dow Corning, Gattefossé, Laboratoire BF, Labosphère, Merck, SACI-CFPA, Sinerga, Stéarinerie Dubois, Strand Cosmetics and Symrise.

Jacques Sebag from Re-Source!, responsible for organising the feature on behalf of in-cosmetics, comments:

“Beauty and fashion have always been interlinked. In French we have a saying, ‘se faire belle’ - to make yourself beautiful - and for us, fashion is an inextricable part of that routine. As such, the purpose of personal care products is not just limited to skin and hair hygiene. Clothes or accessories, cosmetic textures, colours and fragrances are all helping to perfect and beautify our appearance.

“In personal care, we’re actually witnessing a design revolution - a new generation of textures that act as a genuine second skin. They have such a dramatic effect that they make you look and feel as good as when you are wearing a high fashion item. Conversely, some high fashion items and particular fabrics have been likened to a second skin. This parallel lays bare the structural and functional relationship between textiles and cosmetics, fashion and beauty.”

Jacques concludes: “This year’s in-focus will feature groups of ingredient suppliers working with formulation designers to explain their vision of the theme. In previous years exhibitors’ projects were not interlinked, with each showcasing their individual interpretation of the theme. This year there will be greater interaction and collaboration between participants helping visitors understand and acquire a better vision of future trends in the areas of fashion and beauty.”

in-cosmetics takes place in Paris Porte de Versailles, Place de la Porte de Versailles, and will have 500 exhibitors. For further details on visiting, go to
