FDA to Ban Ephedra

According to a Wall Street Journal article, the Food and Drug Administration is expected to announce actions to ban ephedra from the marketplace, the first time FDA has ever moved to ban a dietary supplement. This action is expected to prompt litigation from manufacturers claiming that ephedra, when used properly, poses no health risk.

FDA, which has the power to ban dietary supplement products under 1994 DSHEA legislation, must prove that these products pose 'significant or unreasonable risk'.
