Former ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Pushpanathan Sundram will take up the role of Managing Director at EAS Asia in August 2012, as the international regulatory consultancy expands its services in the region.
Joining the team of legal, policy and scientific experts based in Singapore, Nathan brings over 20 years of experience in trade, finance, development and international cooperation to enhance EAS’ services relating to regulatory harmonisation, government affairs, and trade and investment policies in ASEAN and Asia.
“I am delighted to join EAS, where I believe my expertise, experience and understanding of the region’s dynamics can add significantly to EAS’ work with governments, associations and the private sector,” he said.
Nathan has worked within ASEAN for over 16 years, with his most recent role being that of the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Economic Community, to which he was appointed in 2009. He was the youngest and first professionally recruited Deputy Secretary General in the history of ASEAN.
“Nathan brings to EAS an exceptional level of experience and understanding of trade, investment and regulatory harmonisation,” said EAS Director Simon Pettman. “This will complement perfectly our existing expertise and knowledge, and help us develop our business in important new areas in partnership with both governments and the private sector.”
Nathan holds a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore in collaboration with the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He was the first recipient of the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew School Outstanding Alumni Award in 2011 for his notable leadership and achievements in steering economic integration in ASEAN and East Asia economic cooperation.
