Executives from Foster-Miller detailed these strategies at a press conference held on November 8 at the Food Processing Manufacturing Expo 2004 (FPME) in Chicago.

Foster-Miller worked with General Mills to develop the proprietary processes and equipment to produce Gushers®, the popular liquid-filled fruit snack with a chewy outer shell. The company applied its diverse engineering expertise to manage the project throughout the proof-of-concept, design, build, functional testing and equipment building phases. After completion, Foster-Miller integrated the machine into a General Mills’ facility, setting them on the road to market ownership and product profitability.
In another project, Foster-Miller helped Kraft Foods overcome the challenge of blade fouling and excess scrap within the processing of its Fat-Free Fig Newtons®. The solution was to develop a special non-contact cutting tool, based on water-jet technology, and a cutting technique that resulted in near-zero scrap and a less than one-year return on investment.
