Founder and CEO of Maypro Group Receives the NBJ Lifetime Achievement Award

Steve Yamada recognized for bringing ingredient innovation to the nutritional supplement industry

PURCHASE, NY, July 31, 2007 - Maypro Group, the leading global supplier of nutraceutical and specialty ingredients, announced that its CEO and Founder, Steve Yamada, was recognized with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Nutrition Business Journal. The award was presented to Yamada on July 18, 2007 in Dana Point, CA at the 10th Annual NBJ/Newport Summit - the premier event for the leaders in the health and nutrition industry. Instituted by NBJ in 2004, the "Lifetime Achievement Award" is given annually to leaders who have made an outstanding contribution to the growth of the nutritional supplement industry. Past recipients include Elliott Balbert (the founder of Natrol), El Richard (the founder of Now Foods) and Howard Schiffer (the founder of Vitamin Angels).

Presenting the award, Tom Aarts, the co-chair of the NBJ/Newport Summit, described Steve as an industry pioneer and leading innovator who had introduced some of the most widely-used specialty ingredients into the U.S. from Japan such as Co-Enzyme Q10, glucosamine and chondroitin. Steve Yamada commented "I am very honored to get this award. When I joined this industry 30 years ago, I could not have imagined that one day I would receive such recognition. I have been very lucky to be part of this exciting and fast-growing industry."

Yamada came to the United States from Japan in 1971 for an overseas assignment with a Japanese trading company specializing in fine chemicals. By taking classes to pursue his MBA degree at Baruch College (The City University of New York), he prepared to become an entrepreneur. After two years of business planning, Yamada founded Maypro Industries with a mission of making Americans healthier by bringing innovative natural ingredients from Asia into the U.S. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Maypro Group has since grown into one of the largest global suppliers of nutraceutical ingredients with six subsidiaries strategically located in the U.S., Japan and China. In September of 2006, Maypro became a minority-owned affiliate of Marubeni Corporation - one of Japan's largest conglomerates with over $70 billion in annual revenues and offices in more than 125 countries worldwide.

In addition to its commodities business, Maypro has become a leader in bringing science-backed, patented, proprietary branded ingredients from Asia into the U.S. and vice-versa. Six years ago, Maypro introduced its flaghship product AHCC(R), the top selling immune supplement ingredient in Japan, which is used in over 700 clinics throughout Asia. With current annual sales of about 10 metric tons to such prestigious national brands as Source Naturals, Now Foods, Blue Bonnet, Douglas Labs, Olympian Labs, American Biosciences and Vitamin Shoppe, Maypro has established AHCC as the leading immune support ingredient in the U.S. More recently, Maypro also introduced Oligonol(R), an NDI-approved, lychee-based ingredient that is the world's first industrially produced low-molecular-weight polyphenol. Oligonol's bioavailability and anti-oxidant activity exceed such mainstream antioxidants as pine bark, grape seed and green tea. Maypro's ingredient portfolio also includes Bifilon(R) (BB536) - Japan's top selling probiotic ingredient, which has recently achieved self-affirmed GRAS status in the U.S. Bifilon has also received the much-coveted FOSHU regulatory approval in Japan, demonstrating the quality of its supporting scientific research that includes more than 40 clinical studies. In the fall of 2007, Maypro will begin to market PQQ(R), a new vitamin ingredient developed by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Corp (MGC). This product launch will build on a very successful 20-year partnership between MGC and Maypro, which established Mitsubishi's CoQ10 as one of the leading products in the U.S. market.

Maypro has also been a pioneer in bringing patented, science-backed ingredients from North America and Europe to Japan, including such well-recognized products as Phaseolamin(R) (Phase 2), Tonalin(R) CLA, Citrimax(R), ForsLean(R), Liposan Ultra(R), NeOpuntia(R), Neptune Krill Oil(R) and Biocell(R) Collagen.
