North Bergen, New Jersey, January 12, 2007 — Michael Faber, Business Manager, Pharmaceuticals, Nutraceuticals and Cosmetics, Frutarom USA Inc., announced the immediate availability of a premium variety of ginseng, produced through Frutarom’s EFLA® HyperPure patented technology.
Mr. Faber said that in addition to truly exceptional purity, Frutarom’s patented HyperPure technology creates a ginseng that provides good solubility and improved stability. The entire spectrum of beneficial ingredients that are inherent in the plant is maintained. He noted, “In addition, since no toxic solvents are used, our exclusive process is entirely eco-friendly as compared with other conventional procedures.”
“It is well established that ginseng roots are notoriously susceptible to fungus, rot and insect damage necessitating the use of pesticides for crop protection. Our EFLA® HyperPure process results in ginseng that contains substantially lower pesticide residues than those found in ginseng created through conventional extraction techniques. EFLA® HyperPure protects the plant matrix and activity profile of ginseng whereas other pesticide removal processes are more aggressive and harm the actual extract,” said Mr. Faber as he described Frutarom’s decontamination procedure.
Mr. Faber explained that the EFLA® process involves the quantitative concentration of lipophilic contaminants in a lipoid matrix. The matrix is composed of natural vegetable oils, fats or waxes. Essentially, these foodstuff mixtures are dispersed in the extract and charged with the pesticides to be eliminated through a special technology. The charged lipoids are then separated from the extract by cross flow microfiltration, which involves passing the solution through a membrane so that the liquid extract is separated by the lipoid particles that are larger in size.
EFLA® HyperPure ginseng is suited for use as a nutraceutical supplement and as a nutraceutical ingredient in beverages and food products.
Frutarom’s ginseng is part of the EFLA® line which was acquired when Frutarom purchased Emil Flachsmann in 2003. Other products in the line include quality Yerba Mate, Pumpkin Seed and Olive Leaf extracts.
