Gaia Herbs, the Transylvania County-based grower and manufacturer of organic botanical medicines, welcomes the public and the media to their 2nd annual Summer Solstice Open House, Saturday June 20th, from 10 am – 4 pm. Public tours will be offered at the pristine 250-acre certified organic farm and state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Brevard, NC.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about running an organic herb farm and go on a walking tour of some of the company’s fields of Echinacea, California Poppy, and Valerian that are in full bloom on this longest day of the year. Those who have difficulty walking will be able to ride on a tractor-led wagon to each spot.
Tours of Gaia Herbs certified organic manufacturing facility will give guests a behind-the-scenes understanding of how herbs are extracted, formulated, encapsulated and packaged for sale. All tours are offered on a first-come-first served basis.
An Herbal Information Booth will be staffed to answer questions about herbs. Light refreshments and entertainment will be provided, including face painting, local music, and the presentation of songs and stories by noted naturalist, herbalist and storyteller, Dan Noland. As a new event this year, Gaia Herbs personnel will conduct workshops on how to make a rain barrel for drought management.
Visitors are encouraged to bring water bottles (water refills available on site), closed-toed comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen to be ready for a day on the farm. For a complete schedule of events and directions, go to www.gaiaherbs.com
