Probiotics manufacturer Ganeden Biotech and natural products maker Pro Drive announced the debut of Pro Drive™ Sports Bar, a protein energy bar enhanced with the probiotic GanedenBC30®. The new crunchy peanut butter fudge flavored energy bars will be available nationwide in August at Max Muscle stores with a suggested retail price of $2.49. Plans for additional Pro Drive Sports Bar flavors and retailers will be announced later in the year.
Food technologists at Pro Drive and Ganeden Biotech collaborated for more than three years to create an entirely new energy bar formulation featuring the most advanced nutrition technology. This leading technology consists of a special blend of protein and probiotics to provide energy and digestive and immune support. The Pro Drive Sports Bar combines protein and GanedenBC30 into an easy-to-eat bar with a great taste and no high-fructose corn syrup.
The U.S. energy bar market is very competitive. Energy bars were initially developed for athletes who needed high protein food supplements during energy draining races and training sessions. Increasingly, women are using energy bars as replacements for meals and nutritional supplements while demanding better tasting options such as the Pro Drive bar.
“No one else has created a sports bar that delivers on taste, health, protein and probiotics,” said Phil Harrison, National Sales Director for Pro Drive. “It packs a great punch with a crunchy peanut butter and rich fudge chocolate taste. All of our research indicates that we have a game changer in the sports bar market. We are hoping to offer other great flavors soon.”
The new probiotic-enhanced protein sports bars are ideal to consume before, during and after exercise, and contain a proprietary blend of high quality proteins and added fiber. However, what sets apart the Pro Drive Sports Bar from other protein bars is its taste and probiotics. Pro Drive selected the probiotic GanedenBC30 for its digestive and immune system benefits. Pro Drive is the only nationally available protein energy bar to include GanedenBC30.
“It’s been a great development process for us and we are very excited to share the result of all our hard work,” explained Harrison. “We were thrilled at the survivability of GanedenBC30 and we were pleased with all of the research Ganeden Biotech provided to demonstrate the benefits of their probiotic.”
Unlike other probiotic strains, GanedenBC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086) is unique in its ability to survive the toughest manufacturing processes, including those used in sports bar processing. The survivability of GanedenBC30 can be linked to its naturally occurring layer of organic material that protects the genetic core of the bacteria. Other probiotic strains, including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are unable to form this protective layer, making them vulnerable to failure in a variety of manufacturing processes.
“Having GanedenBC30 included in Pro Drive Sports Bars is a win-win for both companies,” said Mike Bush, vice president of business development for Ganeden Biotech. “We’re pleased to partner with Pro Drive and enter the protein energy bar market with a high-quality bar that is unlike anything else available on the market.”
