Gatorade launches G Series in Canada

Gatorade brand in Canada announced that the G Series line of products will be available in stores on March 21, 2011.

PepsiCo Canada, licensee of the Gatorade(R) brand in Canada, announced that the G Series line of products will be available in stores on March 21, 2011. Designed to help athletes maximize their performance, G Series provides fuel, fluid and nutrients before, during and after activity. Grounded in the latest sports nutrition research and developed in collaboration with some of North America's top athletes, the G Series platform showcases the Gatorade brand's deep understanding and commitment to the performance and nutritional needs of today's athletes.

"The launch of G Series in Canada solidifies that the Gatorade brand is moving beyond a sports drink company to a sports nutrition innovator," said Julie Raheja-Perera, Senior Director of Marketing, PepsiCo Canada. "The G Series platform is an evolutionary step in the brand's 40-year history of studying the best athletes in the world, and understanding that a competitive edge can mean precious milliseconds or millimeters that make all the difference in sport and training."

Athletes including MMA world champion Georges St-Pierre, ultra-marathoner Ray Zahab and world champion snowboarder Maelle Ricker have been participating in a six-month G Series trial program in Canada. With over 65 top athletes from a wide range of disciplines across Canada, the G Series trial was designed to solicit real-world feedback of the three-step before, during and after G Series nutritional program.

"G Series has already been playing an important role in my success at this year's World Cup season in Austria," said Maelle Ricker, world champion snowboarder. "G Series Gatorade Prime(R) has been giving me the extra edge I need just before each heat and G Series Gatorade Recover(R) helps me get back on the hill after a tough day. By giving me the fuel I need before, during and after competition and training, the G Series is really helping me push my limits as I train for the 2014 Olympic Games."

The G Series will be available in stores across Canada on March 21, 2011. Gatorade Prime pre-game beverage will retail for $1.99 for a single 118 mL pouch; Gatorade Perform(R) thirst quencher and G2 Perform(TM) electrolyte beverage will retail for $1.99 for a 591mL bottle, $2.29-$2.49 for a 710mL bottle, and $2.99 for a 950mL bottle; and Gatorade Recover post-game recovery beverage will retail for $2.99 for a single 500 mL bottle.

About the G Series

The G Series portfolio is designed to meet the distinct sports nutrition and hydration needs before, during, and after training or competition:

"Building on the insight from some of the world's top athletes, we applied over 20 years of expertise in sports nutrition to develop functional products that address today's athletes' specific nutritional needs," said Dr. Lawrence Spriet, Chairman, Gatorade Sports Science Institute Canadian Advisory Board.

Gatorade Prime: Athletes are looking for energy to kick-start their activity, but don't want to feel too full according to Gatorade brand research. Gatorade Prime is pre-game fuel in a convenient and functional 118mL pouch that provides 25 grams of carbohydrate energy to fuel muscles, electrolytes to trigger thirst and promote hydration, and B vitamins to support energy metabolism. Designed for use 15 minutes before a workout or competition, Gatorade Prime is a natural health product. Always read and follow the label.

Gatorade Perform thirst quencher: In the moment of activity, athletes turn to the most thoroughly researched sports beverage in the world that offers a scientifically backed blend of fluids to help rehydrate, electrolytes to promote replacement of what athletes lose in sweat, and carbohydrate energy to fuel working muscles and enhance athletic performance.

An additional option is G2 Perform, a low-calorie electrolyte beverage that delivers functional hydration during exercise with only 20 calories per 250mL.

Gatorade Recover: Athletes know it's critical to promote muscle recovery to get ready for their next workout or competition. Gatorade Recover is the first protein and carbohydrate beverage with the consistency of a thirst quencher for use immediately (within 30 minutes) after exercise to help promote rehydration and muscle recovery.

While developing the G Series, which first launched in U.S. in 2010, Gatorade scientists collaborated with some of the world's top athletes, including Usain Bolt, Serena Williams, Peyton Manning, and Dwyane Wade, and solicited feedback from a comprehensive study of over 10,000 athletes in the US. The study included 400 one-on-one interviews in 14 states with elite high school athletes and a wide array of sports health professionals to ensure the G Series meets athlete needs.
