Herbal Sector in India Shows Strong Growth

According to the Times of India,the Indian Herbal healthcare market grew at a rate of 12 percent last year, and is projected to continue with growth up to 20 percent in 2004.

The article pegs the market at Rs 5,000 crore mark (over US $1.1 billion) with exports estimated to be just under half of this amount, up from Rs 100 crore ten years ago.

Companies noted in the article include: Himalaya (Rs 300 crore or US $66M), Sami Labs (Rs 250 crore or US $ 55M) and Natural Remedies, operator of an extract manufacturing plant in Bangalore.
