International Conference Highlights Latest Advances and Challenges in Natural Health Product Research

-Internationally acclaimed presenters will tie advances and challenges to opportunities for success in the marketplace-

Toronto, Canada -
Approaches to promote new Natural Health Products (NHPs) development, coupled with discussion on the challenges in consumer and professional views of NHPs will bring leading researchers, product developers, regulators and healthcare providers to TorontoMarch 3-5, 2006.

From Concept to Consumer”, the Natural Health Products Research Society of Canada’s 3rd annual conference, will showcase the use of NHPs in cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and mental health and other fields, building on the success of the two previous conferences held in Vancouver and Montreal.

“Our 3rd research conference is significant, not only because it will showcase the latest research breakthroughs in Canada and beyond, but because it will emphasize some of the challenges in ensuring that safe, high quality NHPs are readily available to consumers,” explains Dr. Allison McCutcheon, President of the Natural Health Products Research Society of Canada, the show host. “Healthcare costs are rising, the population is aging, and virtually everyone is becoming more interested in science-based food and NHP products that can enhance health. Consumers receive mixed messages – from so many sources including two second sound bites, that it’s difficult to move forward. Getting solid science to consumers is a challenge for all of us - researchers, industry, regulators and healthcare providers. Yet, it is vital that we all make informed choices.”

From the opening presentation by Dr. Boyd Eaton, author of “The Paleolithic Diet”, to the closing plenary by Dr. Ezio Bombardelli, President of the Scientific Board of leading herbal products company, Italy-based, Indena, the science behind functional foods and natural health products will be coupled with discussion on the roles for NHPs in improving health and wellness. Some of the specific challenges in development, regulation and use will be brought to the forefront in a special one-day symposium: “Perceptions of Natural Health Products and Functional Foods Research which includes the following speakers:
