Satise(TM) Satiety Aid, Derived From Potatoes, Is Test Marketed in Phoenix, Arizona
DES MOINES, Iowa, May 14 -- Kemin Consumer Care, L.C., part of the Kemin group of companies based in Des Moines, announces the introduction of a clinically tested, natural, and convenient-to-use weight-management product known as Satise(TM) Satiety Aid.
The active ingredient in Satise, known as proteinase inhibitor 2 (PI2), is a protein extract derived from potatoes. Clinical studies have shown PI2 is effective in producing natural feelings of fullness and satiety, allowing people to manage hunger naturally with no known side effects. Manufacturing of this ingredient is conducted at Kemin manufacturing facilities in Des Moines.
"Several years of studies and research have been spent developing this product," said Andrew Shao, Ph.D., technical service manager for research and development at Kemin. "This is an exciting moment for Kemin to witness the evolution of Satise from lab research to store shelves."
Satise is the latest development in a long line of natural dietary supplements and food ingredients produced by Kemin. Most notably, in 1995, Kemin introduced FloraGLO(R) lutein to the vitamin and dietary supplement market. Today, Kemin is the market leader for lutein in dietary supplements. Studies have shown that lutein reduces the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts, two of the leading causes of blindness. Emerging evidence also suggests that lutein may play a role in the prevention of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Satise is produced in capsules with a recommended dosage of one capsule 30 minutes prior to the two largest meals of the day. Satise is distributed exclusively at Hi-Health stores in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area, and can be purchased by calling 1-800-266-2323 or by visiting www.hihealth.com .
Satise signals the release of a naturally occurring intestinal compound known as cholecystokinin (CCK). CCK is normally released into the body during a meal, and acts on the stomach and other organs to produce feelings of fullness. Taking Satise before a meal initiates this process earlier, allowing people to feel full and satisfied sooner and eat less.
"Satise is not a quick-fix, weight-loss product," added Shao, who holds a doctorate in Nutritional Biochemistry from Tufts University. "This product is a safe complement to a healthy diet in order to maintain feelings of fullness and satisfaction. With a commitment to a balanced diet and regular exercise, Satise can help people manage their weight and achieve overall wellness."
In the 2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, statistics revealed 64.5% of American adults (120 million) were overweight or obese. And from 1991 to 2000, the prevalence of being overweight among U.S. adults increased by 61%.
"Obesity in this country is reaching epidemic proportions," said Joi Gleason, a registered dietitian of the American Dietetic Association and former clinical nutritionist for Tufts University New England Medical Center in Boston, Mass. "Obesity is linked to increased risk of several health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and osteoarthritis. If Americans don't change their habits when it comes to proper food intake, regular exercise, and healthy lifestyle habits, we are going to be facing serious health issues in the near future."
