The International Probiotics Association (IPA) brought together over 220 delegates from the global probiotic industry and an EFSA panel member, Dr. Henk Van Loveren, at its 2nd World Congress this past week in Miami, Florida. This provided the forum that the IPA and its members were waiting for to be able to access EFSA, which have been elusive to date.
“This was the IPA’s first step in what we hope will become a co-operative effort between the probiotic industry and EFSA in establishing a reasonable environment for health claims evaluation,” says Scott Bush President of IPA.
Along with addressing the changing European and Canadian regulatory environments, the IPA World Congress featured internationally recognized scientific and medical experts who presented the latest findings on probiotic biotechnology, microbiome research and clinical benefits that have been demonstrated from probiotic supplementation. The meeting was CME approved for healthcare professionals.
The International Probiotics Association (IPA) is an international organization composed of industry and academia. Its goal is to provide a unique forum for the exchange of research and latest breakthroughs in probiotic technology and new product development. IPA works with government bodies and industry to assist in establishing scientific standards for probiotic supplements, probiotic pharmaceutical products and functional foods. IPA educates the trade, medical professionals and consumers on the proven health benefits of probiotics.
