NORTHFIELD, Ill., May 3, 2004 -- Kraft Foods is helping America play its carbs right by introducing a new line of great-tasting lower-carb alternatives to several of consumers' favorite brands. The new items will be unveiled at the annual Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Supermarket Industry Convention in Chicago from May 2 - May 4, 2004.
Available in stores nationwide, CarbWell(R) will help people who are counting their carbs enjoy delicious foods from familiar and trusted brands. To make counting carbs even easier for consumers, kraftfoods.com has launched an online educational tool that features free carb-counting software, cooking tips and helpful nutrition information, such as the importance of monitoring portion size and calories. The full line of CarbWell products will be featured at the FMI show in Kraft's Booth #1116.
Coming this month, people who are counting carbs will be able to enjoy new SnackWell's(R) CarbWell Fudge Brownie, Fudge Striped and Fudge Grahams cookies. Each SnackWell's CarbWell cookie variety contains nine (9) or less grams of net carbs. Also launching this month is the Balance(R) CarbWell Nutrition Energy Bar. Available in Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate Fudge varieties, each bar contains 14 grams of protein and two (2) grams of net carbs per serving, plus 23 vitamins and minerals.
In June, Post(R) CarbWell Cereal will hit the shelves in two varieties: Cinnamon Crunch and Golden Crunch. These great-tasting lower-carb offerings from Post Cereal feature 11 grams of protein, five (5) grams of fiber and just 50 percent the net carbs of leading cereals (9 grams per serving). At the same time, Kraft will introduce three great-tasting and chewy Post CarbWell Cereal Bars made with real cranberries, raisins, cinnamon, almonds and creamy peanut butter. Each bar will contain 10 grams of protein, three (3) grams of fiber, nine (9) grams of net carbs, plus 10 vitamins and minerals.
For carb-counters who are looking forward to striking up their grills, A-1(R) CarbWell Steak Sauce, which contains the same authentic steak house flavor as the original recipe but with one (1) gram of carbs per serving, will also be available next month. Kraft(R) CarbWell BBQ Sauce is currently available in stores, with three (3) grams of carbohydrates per serving, along with four new Kraft CarbWell Salad Dressings - Ranch, Italian, Blue Cheese and Classic Caesar -- which each contain zero (0) grams of carbohydrates.
"Consumer response to CarbWell via kraftfoods.com has been terrific," said Ms. Beck. "People appreciate that we're carving a new niche within the lower-carb arena, offering great-tasting and familiar foods that are also a good value. So, we're very excited to see how they'll respond to our upcoming CarbWell additions this spring and summer."
