Los Angeles, California—October 2007. Leaders from the natural products industry will meet at SupplySide West, Las Vegas, Nevada to announce the creation of the Asociación Latino Americana de Productos Naturales (ALAPN) – the Latin American Natural Products Association.
The idea of forming the ALAPN originated 18 months ago when representatives from Latin America participated, as speakers, in the seminar “Finding Success in Latin America” that took place, at the Natural Products Expo West, Anaheim, CA – March, 2006.
The speakers’ enthusiasm, after the successful seminar and the response from the attendees, as well as their own experiences in their countries -- receiving visitors from the USA and Europe, analyzing the potential business in the “unseen” continent -- triggered the creation of the Association.
Latin America, a region with more than 40 countries, surpassing in excess of 500,000,000 people, has a stable economy. In the last few years, Health authorities have regulated dietary supplements and herbal products categories, and the local Trade Associations have been actively involved in lobbying in favor of the natural products industry.
Dr. Jorge Weil, in charge of coordinating the first ALAPN meeting expressed ”Now is the time to expand our efforts beyond our countries’ frontiers. We need to harmonize the regulations in the region. Another important task of the ALANP will be developing and promoting science. Latin American researchers and universities are recognized for their excellence and diligence.”
The first meeting of the Latin American Natural Products Association will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at SupplySide West, Las Vegas, Nevada. More than 50 Latin American industry leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, including Presidents and Officers from the local Trade Associations, will participate in this event.
The agenda will include speaking to American FDA authorities, representatives of NFA, CRN, AHPA, ABC, DSEA, as well as industry leaders in order to introduce ALAPN. During SupplySide West, the ALANP meeting point will be the Mexican Natural Products Association booth -- ANIPRON's booth # 21077.
