MORTON GROVE, Ill., April 3, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Lifeway Foods, Inc., (LWAY) , makers of a nutritious, probiotic dairy beverage called kefir, announced today for the first quarter ended March 31, 2007, total consolidated sales increased 50% to approximately $9,021,000 from $6,003,000 during the same period a year ago. This increase in sales was driven by another strong sales increase of Lifeway's kefir line of 28% and the remainder coming from the sales of the Helios kefir line and Pride of Main Street's milk line.
Julie Smolyansky, Lifeway's CEO, commented, "The first quarter 2007 was another outstanding quarter for Lifeway Foods. Sales continue to grow at a record pace, and we continue to execute on all of our strategies for growth. The first 2 weeks of the year, which were roughly half of what we recorded in the last week of the quarter, were unusually slow as many people returned from their holiday vacations, but then in the third week of the year, we saw a tremendous increase in orders that climbed to the last week of the quarter which was a record week for us."
Smolyansky added, "Given this dramatic increase in sales in the first quarter, we feel very confident this trend will continue for the rest of 2007."
