Minnesota Applied Research Center Adds Three New Employees To Support Continued Strong Growth Pattern

EDINA, MN – April 19, 2006 – Minnesota Applied Research Center (MARC) today announced the addition of three new employees; Karin Westberg, MS, RD/LD as a Registered Dietitian, Christine Madson, MAEd, CCRC as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator and Timothy Busian as a Research Assistant. “MARC is very fortunate to experience such strong growth. Adding the experience of top-notch personnel enables MARC to continue to offer the exceptional service and meet the high quality expectations of our clinical trial sponsors,” says Dr. Joy Frestedt, Vice President of Clinical Affairs, Humanetics Corporation and Executive Director of Clinical, Minnesota Applied Research Center.

Karin Westberg, MS, RD/LD joins MARC as a Registered Dietitian. Ms. Westberg will be responsible for counseling subjects and assessing their diet and exercise patterns as they pertain to all clinical trial activities conducted at MARC. Prior to joining MARC, Ms. Westberg recently graduated from Iowa State University with a Master of Science degree in Nutrition. While at Iowa State, Ms. Westberg conducted nutrition research and assisted with the hypothesis generation, study design creation and execution and outcome analysis for the nutrition needs of elite female athletes. In addition, she completed a dietetic internship involving Medical & Nutrition Therapy (Gastrointestinal, Diabetes, Cardiology, Oncology, Geriatrics, Pulmonary, Neurology, Physical Rehabilitation, Renal and Pediatrics), Community Health (WIC Program and Government Food Policy Issues) and Food Service Management (Food Safety & Sanitation, Human Resources Budgeting, Food Production, Quality Assurance). “Karin brings to MARC a wealth of dietary experience in the clinical setting through her education, research and internships. She will greatly enhance MARC’s abilities to provide in-depth patient management in our clinical trials for natural products,” says Dr. Frestedt.

Christine Madson, MAEd, CCRC, joins MARC as Clinical Research Coordinator where she will be responsible for recruiting, screening and enrolling subjects and monitoring study procedures at MARC. Prior to joining MARC, Ms. Madson worked as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. In addition, she also worked at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN and various other community resource clinics in the Twin Cities area. Christine received her Masters of Education from the College of St. Catherine and her BA from the University of Minnesota. “Christine’s clinical experience at the University of Minnesota Medical Center will round out our clinical management capability as we continue to see increasing numbers of patients. We’re very excited to be able to add her expertise to our program,” says Dr. Frestedt.

Another new employee includes Research Assistant, Timothy Busian. Mr. Busian will join the MARC team of research assistants to assist with overall clinic operations and organization. “Tim has a strong background in biochemistry & human physiology and his education and professional experience will strengthen MARC’s capabilities and the service we are able to provide to our customers,” says Dr. Frestedt. “It’s an exciting time for MARC and we are extremely fortunate to have the extensive experience and practical skills that all of these employees bring to the table.
