Natural Products Industry Continues Rapid Growth; New Hope Natural Media to Present Latest Trends in Natural and Organic Products at Natural Products Expo East in D.C.

BOULDER, Colo.--Sept. 2, 2003--The natural and organic products industry, which has demonstrated a 20 percent annual growth rate for the past 10 years, shows no sign of slowing down. Products will be showcased at the 19th Annual Natural Products Expo East, produced by New Hope Natural Media, a division of Penton Media, Sept. 4-7, in the new Washington, D.C., Convention Center. While many still consider the natural and organic products industry to be small, this trade show proves otherwise. More than 19,000 people will attend the show, and 1,720 booths from 12 countries will exhibit. Trend watchers can expect to find more than 600 new products in the food, health care, personal care and natural living categories.

"The industry is expanding swiftly, and new manufacturers are hitting the scene each quarter," said New Hope's president, Fredrik Linder. "Ours is still a very fertile industry for growth, investment and innovation even during a down economy, and we're pleased to provide the crossroads for manufacturers, retailers, experts and activists with Natural Products Expo East."

Approximately 200 international and domestic certified organic products manufacturers will exhibit their goods at the inaugural Organic Products Expo -- BioFach America, located in Hall C. Earlier this year, New Hope penned an agreement with Europe's largest organic products trade show, BioFach, to jointly produce a trade show specifically for organic products, which Linder refers to as an "international show within a show."

Patch Adams, M.D., will present the Keynote Address, "Wellness and the Joy of Caring," Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Dr. Adams has devoted his life to transforming the U.S. health care system, and he is the founder of the Gezundheit Institute, a free health care facility in West Virginia.

Additional events include the annual Spirit of Organic Dinner and Awards, held Sept. 4, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and the Rasta Prom featuring Ziggy Marley, Sept. 5, from 9 p.m. until midnight.

Educational seminars begin Sept. 4 and run throughout the show during business hours. Seminars will focus on all topics within the industry, including product marketing, herbal and homeopathic remedies, personal care, genetically modified organisms, combating obesity, and FDA regulations for nutritional supplements. Seminars are free of charge to Expo East attendees. A full schedule of seminars is available at

A press briefing will be held on Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., in room 140 A & B. The briefing will expose trends in natural and organic foods, health care, natural living and personal care.
