Several Boulder/Denver area businesses will display their products this weekend in a group exhibit at a leading European natural and organic products trade show.
Boulder, CO – (April 12, 2007) – As part of an economic development initiative supported by the City of Boulder to promote the growth of natural and organic products businesses in the region, a group of Boulder-based businesses are showcasing their wares this weekend at a leading organic trade show in London, England.
Organized by Boulder-based Compass Natural LLC, a full service marketing and communications firm, and sponsored by the City of Boulder, Naturally Boulder and the Colorado Department of Agriculture, the Naturally Boulder trade mission features a group exhibit in the U.S. pavilion at Natural & Organic Products Europe held April 15 -16 at Olympia Exhibition Hall. The yearly show attracts more than 10,000 visitors including leading buyers and distributors from the U.K. and Europe. Companies participating in the Naturally Boulder trade mission include Kroeger Herb Products Company, BTG Enterprises, InnoVision Health Media, Annaé Geoceuticals, Boulder’s Best Organics and Organic Vintners. The Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau provided banners of Boulder for use at the show.
Companies in attendance in London will tour Whole Foods’ Fresh & Wild Markets and other local natural food stores. Prior to leaving for London, company representatives attended a pre-show briefing on the U.K. and E.U. markets from Hass Hassan, co-founder of Alfalfa’s Market and former owner of London-based Fresh & Wild natural foods stores, Don Gaidano, director of U.K. operations for Horizon Organic, and Tim Larsen, International Marketing Specialist with the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
By joining the Naturally Boulder trade mission, Rick Cummings of Kroeger Herb Products said, “Kroeger Herb Products is bringing the fine tradition of herbalism back to its roots: Europe. Our company was founded by world-famous herbalist Hanna Kroeger. Hanna formulated a sophisticated line of products in Boulder based on her training in Germany and hands on experience with people’s health needs. Natural & Organic Products Europe offers a great opportunity to meet like-minded companies to expand this line of products to the European market.”
The Boulder area has one of the largest concentrations of natural and organic businesses in the country. There are more than 150 companies in natural and organic products active in the region—including industry leaders Celestial Seasonings, Horizon Organic Dairy, WhiteWave Foods, maker of Silk soymilk, and Wild Oats Markets—contributing an estimated $4 billion in annual revenues to the Colorado economy. With Naturally Boulder’s mission to help grow these businesses in the region, the international trade mission serves to assist local entrepreneurs in reaching a broader market for their natural and organic products and services.
“The trade mission to Europe in 2007 and a planned trade mission to Tokyo, Japan, in April 2008 are breaking new ground for Naturally Boulder and our local business community. Building on Boulder’s unique position in the natural and organic products industry coupled with its global reputation as a health-conscious community, we believe this gives gravitas to the Naturally Boulder trade missions and will serve to enhance the attention products from local companies receive from international buyers and distributors,” says Seleyn DeYarus, Vice President of Compass Natural.
The U.K. and European markets for natural and organic products are growing by 20-30% annually, according to The Organic Market Report 2006, released by Britain's largest certification body, the Soil Association. The low trading value of the dollar means U.S. products are a better value in overseas markets. Additionally, Whole Foods Market opens its first 75,000 sq.-ft. store in London in 2007, leading a new era in European natural and organic products retailing.
