New Hope's 2007 Natural Products Expo Asia Expands Attendance, Exhibitors

NEW YORK, Aug 02, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- New Hope Natural Media today announced that its fifth annual Natural Products Expo Asia set new attendance and exhibition records. The 2007 tradeshow and conference, held in late June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, attracted more than 300 exhibiting companies from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, the U. S., Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand and Argentina. The event showcased more than 5,000 natural and organic products in the industry's largest event in Asia. More than 9,000 attendees visited the three-day show, representing a 25 percent increase in traffic over the previous Expo in 2005.

Excluding Hong Kong, the top ten attendee countries/regions were Mainland China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines, the U. S., Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Australia. Visitor attendance from China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Korea and Malaysia doubled this year.

Show floor space also doubled, reflecting a growing range of product offerings, including natural and organic foods and beverages; supplements; personal care; pet products; herbs; traditional Chinese medicines and raw materials. First-time exhibitors included United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI), the largest U.S. supplier and distributor of natural and organic products, as well as PetGuard, Inc.; Natural Value Inc.; Earth Friendly Products; DoHawaii and Nature's Gate. In addition, ten industry-leading companies from Taiwan were featured in the show's first-ever "Taiwan Pavilion."

Natural Products Expo Asia 2007 featured the debut of the first Asia HealthyFoods and Nutracon Asia Conferences.

Conference speakers included Xiao Xingji, director of China's Organic Food Development Center, the country's first specialized organic research, inspection and certification body; Andre Leu, chairman of the Organic Federation of Australia; and Dr. Regina Ching, Assistant Director of Health for the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Other panelists and speakers included David Gagnon, Chief Operating Officer for the Organic Trade Association; Wang Liping, vice-director general of the Guangdong Food and Drug Administration, and Jeffrey Crowther, director/chief representative of the Natural Products Association's China Division.
