Japan 2003 – A Global Leader in the Development and Marketing of Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals

Date: November 24th, 2003
Location: Delta Vancouver Airport, Richmond BC

Government-industry cooperation, a strong work ethic, mastery of high technology, and a comparatively small defense allocation has helped Japan's economy advance rapidly to the rank of third in the world after the US and China. It is therefore not surprising that health-oriented Japan is a leader in the development and marketing of functional foods.

Functional Foods are now a distinct category within the Japanese food supply. Under this system, the term “functional” has been dropped and the term “Foods for Specified Health Use,” or “FOSHU,” has been introduced. This International conference will shed light on the many opportunities for functional foods, Nutraceuticals and natural health products in Japan.

The speaker line-up includes a list of distinguished speakers:

~ Ron Bailey, President of California Functional Foods
~ Mr. Hiroaki Hamano, Dept. of Specified Health Use, Japan Health and Nutrition Food Association, Danisco Japan Ltd., Senior Advisor, Regulatory & Technical Affairs
~ Noboru Shimizu, Commercial Officer, Canadian Embassy in Tokyo Japan
~ Kelley Fitzpatrick, Marketing and Research Development Director, Richardson Centre for Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals
