NPA appoints 3 new board directors

Read which industry veterans will help forward NPA’s mission of advocacy for suppliers, retailers and consumers nationwide.

Three new directors were appointed to the Natural Products Association’s Board: Frank Jaksch, president, CEO and cofounder of ChromaDex, Inc.; Michele Lobo, vice president of nutrition body care for Presence Marketing/Dynamic Presence; and John Montague, DC, founder and owner of Web Vitamins, Inc. Jaksch and Lobo were appointed by the supply council to fill two vacancies and will represent the supplier side of the association. Montague was elected by the NPA East Region as its president and will serve as the region’s designated representative to the NPA Board. He also will represent the retailer side.

“I’d like to welcome Frank, Michele and John to the NPA Board. These are dedicated individuals who support NPA’s mission of advocacy not just for suppliers and retailers, but for millions of natural products consumers nationwide,” said NPA President Jeff Wright. “I look forward to working with them as we move toward our goals of bringing new members to NPA and raising awareness for our industry in the marketplace.”

NPA’s new board directors include:

Frank Jaksch of Irvine, Calif., is the president, CEO and co-founder of ChromaDex, Inc. Founded in 1999, ChromaDex is the leading supplier of botanical reference standards and phytochemical products, analytical services and novel ingredients to the dietary supplement, sports nutrition, food, beverage and cosmetic and pharmaceutical markets. His broad expertise includes analytical chemistry, biochemistry, processes and product development for natural products, legal and regulatory practices, agriculture and botany. Additionally, he has more than 20 years of management, sales, marketing and business development experience.

Michelle Lobo of Boulder, Colo., has been in the natural products industry since 1992. With a background in nutrition and body care, she started as HABA manager at Alfalfa's Market while also serving as co-owner of Zents Inc., a boutique body care brand. Later, while working for a Colorado independent broker, she and her husband, Chris bought the brokerage and partnered with Bill Weiland and Presence Marketing. Lobo is the vice president of nutrition body care for Presence/Dynamic Presence.

John Montague, DC, of Windsor, Conn., graduated from the National College of Chiropractic with a chiropractic degree and a degree in human biology. He also earned a MA in education from New Haven University, after which he taught biology, chemistry and human anatomy. In 1996, Montague founded Web Vitamins, Inc., which began with a vision for making supplements affordable and accessible, particularly to people who live in remote areas. In addition to joining the national NPA Board, Montague has been elected president of NPA East.
