(ANN ARBOR, MI USA) – NSF International (www.nsf.org), The Public Health and Safety Company™ awards Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) registration to the National Enzyme Company (NEC), a supplier of enzymes for use in dietary supplements. NSF is the leading global provider of public health and safety-based risk management solutions. NSF issued this GMP registration through the NSF Dietary Supplements Certification Program.
The NSF Dietary Supplements Certification Program provides contract manufacturers a means to become independently registered as conforming to GMP requirements. NSF conducted a plant audit at the NEC facility in Forsyth, Missouri to verify conformance to GMPs. NSF will conduct periodic audits to verify continued conformance. GMPs are regulatory requirements that provide guidelines for necessary processes, procedures and documentation to assure the product produced has the identity, strength, composition, quality and purity it is represented to possess.
GMPs for the current NSF Dietary Supplements Program are based on industry recommended GMPs provided to FDA under FDA's Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and are included in section 8 of NSF Draft American National Standard 173-Dietary Supplements. Standard 173 was developed through a consensus process with participation from dietary supplement manufacturers, raw material suppliers, retailers, trade associations, academic researchers, public health practitioners and government officials. When the USFDA’s GMPs are published, NSF will revise its GMPs to be consistent.
The NSF GMP Registration Program is available to all contract manufacturers and manufacturing facilities of dietary supplements. Contract manufacturers that comply with GMP requirements may use the NSF registration mark in literature and promotional materials, receive NSF registration certificates and are listed on the NSF web site www.nsf.org/Certified/GMP/Listings.asp?CertName.
“I would like to congratulate the National Enzyme Company on achieving NSF GMP Registration,” said Kathleen Pompliano, Manager, New Business Development. “This registration demonstrates compliance to GMPs and provides National Enzyme Company with a distinct advantage in the industry.”
"National Enzyme Company has anticipated the passage of dietary supplement GMPs for many years," said Jo Ann Peterson, Director of Quality Assurance. "In my nine years in the Quality Control Department, we have been continually reviewing and improving our processes and procedures to ensure that we exceed the standards, which will be set forth by the FDA. Receiving GMP registration from NSF International serves to validate our efforts."
