NSF International to Host Special Dietary Supplement GMP Training in China

Course Designed to Strengthen GMP Compliance Overseas

ANN ARBOR, MI – To assist manufacturers and distributors in China with the implementation of the new regulations, NSF today announced that it will be holding a special Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training seminar for the dietary supplement industry. The one-day seminar, “Everything You Need to Know About GMP Certification” will discuss the recent changes in Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and review the current GMPs in manufacturing, packaging, labeling and holding operations for dietary supplements.

Who: The seminar will be put on by NSF Shanghai Co. Ltd., a joint venture between NSF and Shanghai Audit Center of Quality System (SAC) that fulfills a critical mandate required by the People's Republic of China and expedites the product exporting process. Mr. Warren Majerus, an independent consultant with over 25 years of experience in dietary supplements and an expert in FDA GMPs, will lead the seminar.

When: Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Where: The seminar will be held at NSF’s Shanghai Office, 4th Floor, Building 2, No. 258 Wuyi Road Shanghai, 200050, P. R. China.

Who should attend: Professionals involved in the dietary supplement industry including representatives from quality control/assurance, laboratory operations, manufacturing, auditing, labeling, suppliers and distributors of dietary supplements, management and regulatory affairs.

Why you should attend: Chinese manufacturers require independent system registration and product certification in order to facilitate access to international markets. Course participants will learn about FDA GMP certification, including the code of federal regulations, pharmacopoeias, guidance documents and FDA background information. What to expect during FDA audits, detailed information on dietary supplement GMPs and guidance on GMP implementation will also be covered.

NSF will provide companies in China with the ability to demonstrate the quality of their products and confirm regulatory acceptance by verifying manufacturing consistency and accuracy. NSF has a team of trained and qualified professionals to assist manufacturers throughout the entire GMP process, including offering technical assistance on importing ingredients, facility audits, coordination, laboratory testing and follow-up.

NSF/ANSI 173 provides criteria and evaluation methods to determine conformance to GMPs, ensure that dietary supplement products contain the identity and quantity of ingredients listed on product labels, and that the products are free of any undeclared contaminants.
