Nutiva hires organic foods veteran as VP of sales

Fast-growing company has set ambitious annual sales targets of $100M by 2015 and $1B by 2025.

Nutiva, the world's leading brand of organic hemp foods, coconut oil and chia seeds, announced its recent appointment of Karen L. Borie to the position of vice president of sales.

A seasoned executive in the organic foods industry, Borie brings with her a strong understanding of the current retail landscape and success in developing sales while maximizing profit. Borie's role will be focused on leading and overseeing Nutiva's global sales, helping to steer the company's phenomenal growth internationally. Nutiva has grown sales at a 55 percent annual rate since 2002, and has doubled its sales in just the last 120 days. The organic industry pioneer has set ambitious annual sales targets of $100M by 2015 and $1B by 2025.

"Nutiva has been expanding at an exceptional rate—bringing the only complete line of USDA certified organic superfoods to consumers worldwide," said Nutiva founder and CEO John W. Roulac. "Karen will be an integral part of the future of this company, applying her wealth of experience and skill sets in the organic food industry to our sales team. We are thrilled to add her talent to the Nutiva family."

Borie's abundant experience in the organic consumer packaged goods industry includes over 16 years with Annie's Homegrown and her consulting firm, KB Sales & Marketing. Borie helped grow Annie's Homegrown, in the company's previous identity as Napa Valley Kitchens, from $1M to $100M in annual sales. Borie is a graduate of California State University Long Beach, where she earned a bachelor's degree of science in business.

Of her new position, Borie says, "I am delighted to be a part of the Nutiva team as the new vice president of sales. I am extremely passionate about the organic foods industry and am looking forward to the adventure with this dynamic, responsible, and growing company."

Nutiva is well positioned in the organic sector, and is currently the number-one-selling brand of organic coconut oil, hemp foods, and chia seeds. The firm is building out its state of the art packaging facility at its new headquarters in Richmond, Calif., and plans to ramp up its private label program for retailers and brands.
