VANCOUVER, Wash., March 31, 2004 — Cardinal Nutrition, the world’s most experienced manufacturer of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), announced that its OptiMSM® sponsored athlete, Philippa “Phil” Raschker, has been named a finalist for the 2003 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) James E. Sullivan Memorial Award. Known as the “Oscar®” of sports awards, the AAU honors the outstanding amateur athlete in the United States.
Raschker, a 56-year-old masters track and field athlete, is one of five finalists, along with basketball player Lebron James, speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno, swimmer Michael Phelps and basketball player Diana Taurasi. A voting body of 800 members compiled the list of finalists based on the qualities of leadership, character, sportsmanship and the ideals of amateur athleticism.
“Phil Raschker is such a positive role model for OptiMSM, " said Jane Duvauchelle, marketing manager. "She is one of the most accomplished masters athletes today, and she is the embodiment of the healthy, active lifestyle that OptiMSM helps to support. We are delighted that Phil takes OptiMSM every day that OptiMSM helps her continue to do what she loves to do. Knowing this strengthens our commitment to making MSM of superior purity. We strive to emulate achievers like Phil by challenging ourselves to continuously improve. It’s all about quality—quality of our ingredient, and quality of life.” Raschker has been the sponsored athlete of OptiMSM since 2001.
The Amateur Athletic Union is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, amateur sports organizations in the U.S.
The recipient of the Sullivan Award will be announced following a reception to honor all five finalists on April 13th, 2004, at the New York Athletic Club.
