Orafti's 5th Research Conference - 'Inulin & Oligofructose: Proven Health Benifits & Claims'

February 10, 2006 (Malvern, PA) The 2006 conference is to be chaired by Professor Glenn Gibson, from the University of Reading (UK) and Chairman of the Beneo Scientific Committee, and Professor Allan W. Walker, Director of the Division of Nutrition at the Harvard Medical School. At the two-day event, ORAFTI Active Food Ingredients will provide the scientific community with a unique forum to review and discuss the latest scientific data on the health benefits of inulin and oligofructose. The conference, to be held at the Harvard Medical School, will give attendees the chance to be educated and updated at numerous sessions presented by internationally recognized and well-respected scientists. The program will focus on the following subject areas: Intestinal health – The role of functional foods in current health issues; Inulin and oligofructose as functional food ingredients

  • Bone health – The relationship between diet, nutrition and bone health; Overview of research data with inulin and oligofructose
  • Gut peptides and energy metabolism – The role of intestinal peptides, carbohydrate digestibility and metabolic effects
  • Immunity and inflammation – The effects of inulin & oligofructose on immune modulation and intestinal infections
  • Colon cancer – Focusing on the dietary modulation of colon cancer risk
  • Benefits for specific target groups - The maturation and aging of the gut; Inulin and oligofructose in healthy aging and pediatric applications
Anne Franck, Executive Vice President of Science and Technology at ORAFTI, commented “The ORAFTI Research Conference provides a unique opportunity for the scientific community to come together and discuss the nutritional and health properties of inulin and oligofructose. It is an invaluable communication tool for ORAFTI to inform and update the scientific community of new findings and developments”.
