Organic Vintners wines featured at new Alfalfa's Market

Organic Vintners has announced that a majority of its catalog featured in the new wine, spirits and beer department at Alfalfa’s Market, opened on Earth Day, April 22, in downtown Boulder.

Organic Vintners, an independently owned, Boulder-based provider of artisan wines made from 100% certified organic grapes, grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, has announced that a majority of its catalog was featured in the new wine, spirits and beer department at Alfalfa’s Market, opened on Earth Day, April 22, in downtown Boulder.

Known locally and nationally as a pioneer in natural and organic products retailing when it first opened in 1979, Alfalfa’s is reopening as an independently owned and completely modernized full-service natural products grocery under the leadership of original Alfalfa’s co-founder Mark Retzloff. The store is embracing locally based producers, as Boulder is renowned as an epicenter of natural and organic business. Additionally, Alfalfa’s will be the only supermarket in Boulder to feature a dedicated wine, spirits and beer section in the store.

“The state of Colorado allows each grocery chain or independently owned single store to have only one liquor license. Most chains, including King Soopers, Costco, Safeway and Whole Foods Market, have their wine, spirits and beer departments in stores located in the Denver area,” says Organic Vintners president Paolo Bonetti. “Alfalfa’s is unique in that it is the only grocery store in Boulder to have a liquor license, allowing them to sell our wines right inside their natural foods store, where the majority of our core consumers shop,” he says. “This will be the largest display of Organic Vintners products in the country.”

Designed as a “store within a store,” Alfalfa’s wine, spirits and beer section will feature natural, organic and sustainable “adult beverages,” including nearly 50 wines offered by Organic Vintners. Now in its 10th year, Organic Vintners works directly with artisan winegrowers, small estate wineries, cooperatives and family owned operations in California and around the world to bring distinctive, handcrafted wines made from 100% organically grown grapes to its customers—wines, Bonetti says, that are delicious, high quality and environmentally friendly.

“Alfalfa’s is committed to community, sustainability, organic, and offering the highest quality, best-tasting products available,” says Retzloff, co-founder and chairman of the new natural supermarket. “Organic Vintners is a great local partner in all of these efforts,” he says.
