Pacific® Natural Foods (PNF) has won the 2009 Oregon Ethics in Business Award, joining only two other recipients in the business category.
The award honors the state’s outstanding organizations and individuals who demonstrate a commitment to ethical business practices in the workplace, the marketplace, the environment and the community. A partnership among the Rotary Club of Portland, Willamette University, Samaritan Counseling Center and the Portland Business Journal is behind the award www.oregonethicsbusiness.org.
“Earning this award is a wonderful honor for our 347 employees who made it possible,” said Chuck Eggert, one of the founders of Pacific Natural Foods. “We are grateful that there’s an organization that takes the time to acknowledge ethics in business and are honored to be recognized in the company of the other outstanding businesses. This is a real testament to the commitment of our employees to create the highest quality, ethically produced natural and organic food products available.”
According to the Oregon Ethics in Business Web site, “Pacific Natural Foods has a variety of programs in place which go above and beyond compliance expectations for a food processing company…In 1997 PNF established a rigorous, extensive, comprehensive program called “Certified to the Source™” which is designed to document the true origins of their food. Not willing to live with the damage done to the word “organic” over the past several years, PNF wants to know for themselves where their food comes from.”
“We were founded on the principle of doing business for the common good, which has enabled us to stay at the forefront of food quality and safety,” Eggert said. “As noted, we began to source ingredients in our products before the USDA Organic label even existed just because we believed it was important for us and our customers to know where our food comes from.”
Pacific Natural Foods will receive the award at a June 10 ceremony at the Governor Hotel, Heritage Grand Ballroom, 4th Floor, at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker is Oregon Attorney General John Kroger. The hotel is located at 614 SW 11th Ave. in Portland. Other winners include: Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Evergreen Federal Bank, SMART and Mario Pastega.
