Chefs association names president
Janet Carver, Culinology group leader for National Starch, has been elected president of the Research Chefs Association, the leading professional community for food research and development. Carver's election marks the first time a representative from a specialty starch supplier has held the post. It is also the first time a woman has been elected president since the organization's inception in 1996. In 2003, Carver helped establish and manage the National Starch Food Innovation Culinology Group, which explores the application of specialty starches in new food concepts.

Business development exec hired
Ulrick & Short Ltd, a clean label ingredients developer in the UK, has appointed Richard Boulding as its business development executive for the bakery and dairy desserts sector. He is responsible for generating sales leads, researching customer needs, identifying new market opportunities and securing new business. Boulding earned a degree in applied food studies from Brackenhurst College.

Chemist celebrates 50th anniversary
Arnold Hirsch, PhD, one of the founders of AGD Nutrition, celebrated his 50th anniversary as a member of the American Chemical Society. Hirsch, a lifelong chemist and internationally recognized expert in vitamin D, spent time throughout his career with Alpharma, Diamond Shamrock and the Julian Research Institute. Hirsch received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Illinois.

Vice president of research
Kemin Health has appointed Michael Ceddia, PhD, to vice president of research and development. In his role at the company's Des Moines, Iowa, facility, he will be responsible for the innovation process, as well as serve as a member of the executive team. Ceddia previously worked at Mead Johnson Nutrition.

COO takes helm of Marine Nutriceutical
Marine Nutriceutical, a leading supplier of omega-3 fish oil products, has appointed David M Eckert as chief operating officer and executive vice president. Most recently, Eckert was vice president of Cognis' Nutrition & Health business unit in North America. Marine Nutriceutical is based in Mt Bethel, Pennsylvania.

Technology company hires R&D director
Key Technology has appointed Michael Nichols, MD ss senior director of research and development. Nichols is responsible for extending the company's leadership position by implementing programmes to develop and acquire new technologies. Key Technology, an ISO-9001 certified company, is a leading designer and manufacturer of process automation systems, integrated electro-optical inspection and sorting systems, and processing systems.
