KEARNY, NJ, NOVEMBER 9, 2004 – Pharmachem Laboratories Inc. announces its collaboration with Vitamin Angel Alliance, a charitable organization, to provide multi-vitamins for impoverished and malnourished children in Tibet. Together with Pharmachem and other partners, the Alliance recently sent more than 645,000 multi-vitamin tablets to Tibet, and will continue to ship this same quantity on a monthly basis.
The majority of undernourished Tibetan children face hunger and listlessness, as well as blindness and debilitating diseases due to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. A survey of children in Tibet showed that 70 percent are vulnerable to Rickets, a disease caused by not getting enough vitamin D.
According to David Holmes, Founder and President of Pharmachem Laboratories, “Pharmachem is excited to play a role in helping the children of Tibet, a country in which poverty and poor nutrition are rampant. We’re proud to be a part of this effort, because we know that something as simple as vitamins can make a dramatic improvement in the lives of these children.”
Vitamin Angel Alliance administers the Tibetan program, Pharmachem provides the vitamin and mineral raw materials, and Tishcon Corporation provides the tableting and bottling services. Another partner, Terma Foundation, distributes the tablets in Tibet.
The initial program began in the fall of 2003 with the distribution of Vitamin D/Calcium chewable tablets to combat Rickets in Tibet. Based on a recent survey of Tibetan children that illustrated the widespread effects of malnutrition, the program partners decided to shift their focus to a complete multiple vitamin, in an attempt to combat other health problems in addition to Rickets.
The Vitamin Angel Alliance is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to providing basic nutrition and fighting blindness around the world since 1994. We have shipped millions of vitamins and supplements with the help of our Vitamin Angels – a consortium of nutritional supplement manufacturers, distributors and retailers. These goods are then donated to charitable healthcare facilities and programs located in countries across the globe, including the United States.
