EDMONTON, ALBERTA, Oct 20, 2005 (CCNMatthews via COMTEX) -- PLANET ORGANIC HEALTH CORP (TSX VENTURE:POH), Canada's leading natural and organic foods supermarket chain, today reported results for the year ending June 30, 2005. Sales were $27.2 million for the year, versus $12.1 million for the 12-month period last year, an increase of $15.1 million or 125% from the previous year. This increase was driven by acquisitions, store expansions, and same-store sales growth.
"We are very pleased with our sales results," reports Darren Krissie, CFO, "and we look forward to presenting our annual statements on October 28 which will include all financial data". The same-store sales growth was fueled by the Planet Organic Market division, headed by Mark Craft. The Market division generated 23.6% comparative store sales growth over last year and 65.6% total growth over last year including acquisitions, renovations and new store developments.
"These are impressive sale figures which follow the growth path we set for ourselves 4 years ago," said Mark Craft, Planet Organic Markets President and co-founder.
Last week Planet Organic Market announced the signing of an offer to lease a second location in Calgary, Alberta. Craft said that the company continues to seek out further growth opportunities in B.C., Alberta and Ontario with more new store openings and acquisitions.
"This is all good news," Craft said, "and reflects on our ability to deliver to our customer's increasing demand for organic food choices. We're right on track."
Planet Organic Markets is a division of Planet Organic Health Corp (TSX-V: POH)
