Broomfield, CO – August 12, 2003 – Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leading research and development facility and supplier of proprietary, biologically active plant-derived ingredients to the natural products and pharmaceutical industries, has formed a Strategic Advisory Board consisting of prominent leaders in the world of health. The Board will convene at least twice per year at various locations, where they will confer with Unigen’s key management and scientific team to review nuances of scientific research, human clinical trials, existing products and pipeline of future discoveries, as well as Unigen’s corporate vision.

Unigen’s Strategic Advisory Board is chaired by Marcus Laux, N.D., a licensed naturopathic physician. Dr. Laux received his doctorate from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine where he has served as a clinical professor. He is an Affiliate faculty member at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. He is also editor of Naturally Well Today, and is co-author of Natural Woman, Natural Menopause.

• Donald K. Layman, Ph.D., is Professor of Nutrition in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition and College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Layman is internationally recognized for his research in sports nutrition and nutrition for weight loss. He is the former associate editor of the Journal of Nutrition. His research on understanding amino acid metabolism and muscle development has been recognized by the American Society for Nutritional Sciences.
• Leonard Makowka, M.D., Ph.D., is a distinguished clinical surgeon, transplantation specialist and medical researcher recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities in hepatic science. Among his many accomplishments, honors and distinctions, Dr. Makowka was the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Director of Transplantation Services at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Professor of Surgery at UCLA and founder of the Comprehensive Liver Disease and Treatment Center at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles. He has retired from medical practice to pursue other interests.
• Glynnis Mileikowsky is Senior Vice President of Business Expansion for Phillips Health, LLC, a leading publishing and nutritional supplement marketing company located in Potomac, Maryland. In addition to her other responsibilities, Mileikowsky oversees product development. She also plays an active role in several industry-related organizations, including the Dietary Supplement Education Alliance (DSEA), Citizens for Health, and the National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA).
• Adam Morgan most recently served as Vice President of New Business Development at Rexall Sundown, Inc., a leading developer, manufacturer and wholesaler of vitamins, nutritional supplements and sports nutrition products. In that role, he led the process to secure the legal rights to new business opportunities, including unique technologies, ingredients and products, and licensing deals.
