Recycline’s New Preserve® Razor Triple is made from Recycled Materials and is Recyclable
Waltham, MA (October 17, 2006) – Recycline is proving once again that high-performance consumer products used every day can be designed with an environmental edge. The Preserve(R) Razor Triple is the latest addition to the Preserve brand, which already includes the top-selling toothbrush, razor and plastic tableware in the natural product marketplace. This new razor is the first environment-friendly alternative for high-performance shaving products. “The razor category in the natural channel has been void of a high performance offering and consumers and retailers have been asking for an environment-friendly and high-performance alternative,” says Recycline President and founder Eric Hudson.
The handle for the Preserve Razor Triple is made from 100% recycled materials, including 65% Stonyfield Farm(R) yogurt cups. It is completely recyclable in communities with #5 plastics recycling or with Recycline’s postage-paid mailer that is available at stores or from Recycline. Preserve toothbrushes and razor handles collected by Recycline through their postage-paid mailer program are recycled into useful plastic lumber products such as decks, park benches and children’s playground equipment.
"The Recycline partnership demonstrates what companies can do to take responsibility for their products, from design to disposal," states Gary Hirshberg, President and CE-Yo of Stonyfield Farm, the world’s largest organic yogurt maker. “Our ongoing partnership with Recycline has made possible the recycling of more than 1,000,000 yogurt cups into useful new planet-friendly products like the Preserve® toothbrushes, and now, the Preserve Razor Triple.”
In addition to being environment-friendly, the Preserve Razor Triple was designed by a team of experts to optimize shaving performance. The razor’s ergonomic handle has contours and gripping regions that enhance stroke control and comfort. Offered in six attractive colors, the Preserve Razor Triple is packaged with two triple-blade blade cartridges and has a competitive MSRP of $7.49; most comparable offerings by Gillette® and Schick® are typically a dollar more at most retailers
As a complement to their new high performance razor, Recycline has also launched PreserveÒ Razor Triple Blades. The replacement blades are offered in a 4-pack for an MSRP of $7.49. Preserve replacement blades also are typically a dollar less than comparable blades at most retail stores. These high performance triple blades are polished and coated to: reduce drag; ensure a long life; and provide a close, comfortable and smooth shave. The triple blades flex and pivot to prevent nicks and they have a soothing lubricating strip that contains vitamin E and aloe to help protect sensitive skin. To replace the blade, shavers simply squeeze in the “arms,” pop off the blade cartridge and press in a new Preserve Razor Triple Blade. The Preserve Razor Triple handle also works with other popular replacement blade brands, including Personna® Acti-Flexx® and Gillette® Sensor®.
For retailers, Recycline offers a 12-unit standing shelf display for the Preserve Razor Triple. The package of the Preserve Razor Triple Blades also has a built-in hanger and they are merchandized in groups of six.
When designing products, Recycline reviews social responsibility for every aspect of the product, including manufacturing efficiency, product testing and packaging. In accordance with Recycline’s no-animal-testing policy, no parts of the Preserve Razor Triple have been or will be tested on animals. Preserve Razor Triple’s innovative, one-piece handle design reduces resources consumed in manufacturing. The package for the Preserve Razor Triple is made from renewable wood sources and is reusable as a convenient waterproof travel case. It can also be recycled through Recycline’s postage-paid mail-back program. The paper insert is made from 100% post-consumer waste and is printed with soy-based inks.
“Sourcing recycled materials for a consumer product instead of using virgin resources is a great way to support natural resource conservation and reduce dependence on foreign fuels,” states Hudson. “Many people don’t realize that since plastics are made with valuable resources like natural gas and oil, using recycled materials is one very important step in reducing our reliance on foreign oil and gas” adds Hudson. “Using recycled materials also reduces the cost to our environment caused by the exploration, mining, reprocessing and transportation of these precious resources.”
In 2005, Recycline offered the first eco-friendly razor - the PreserveÒ Razor Recyclable - which was designed to replace two-blade “disposable razors.” It is estimated by the EPA that two billion disposable razors make their way into landfills in the United States every year. “The Preserve Razor Recyclable attacks the excessive resources consumed by disposable razors in the United States,” says Hudson. “It is important to look at the life-cycle of the product and design it so that it can be reused and recycled again,” adds Hudson.
Other personal care products from Recycline include the Preserve® Toothbrush, the Preserve® Jr. Toothbrush, Preserveä Tongue Cleaners and Preserveä Flavored Toothpicks made from sustainably harvested and locally grown white birch wood. In 2005, Recycline expanded into the household product market with the launch of their Preserve Tableware line, which includes Preserveä Plateware, Preserveä Cutlery and Preserveä Tumblers - reusable and recyclable plates, forks, knives, spoons and tumbler cups made from recycled plastic and offered in stylish colors. Recycline products are sold in more than 4,000 natural food stores and supermarkets nationwide. They can also be purchased through Recycline's online store at www.recycline.com.
In 1996, Eric Hudson founded Recycline to provide high-quality recycled products to consumers in response to the growth in recycling and the evolution of environmental concern. The company’s mission is to help consumers conserve – to develop products with improved function and that are responsible to the Earth.
