Research Published in Journal of the National Cancer Institute Provides Even Greater Evidence of Lyc-O-Mato(R)'s Prostate Health Benefits

New research, published in the November 5 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, indicates that a combination of the natural phytonutrients found in tomatoes, not just lycopene alone, can help lower the risk of deaths resulting from prostate cancer. “We have said all along that lycopene by itself, whether natural or synthetic, was not solely responsible for reducing prostate cancer risks,” said Dr. Zohar Nir. “This study re-confirmed numerous other findings that have shown the beneficial properties of a natural tomato complex containing lycopene plus other necessary tomato phytonutrients: phytoene, phytofluene, natural vitamin E, beta-carotene and phytosterols. Many of those studies have used Lyc-O-Mato®, which is the only standardized, all-natural, tomato complex that delivers these phytonutrients in the tomatoes own oil, just as they are found in nature.” The new study conducted by Thomas W.M. Boileau, Ph.D., of the University of Illinois, urbana-Champaign, and Steven K. Clinton, M.D., Ph.D., of the Ohio State University of Columbus, and their colleagues showed that rats fed diets containing whole tomato powder which contains all the important tomato phytonutrients, had a lower risk of death from prostate cancer than rats fed diets containing synthetic lycopene or a restricted diet. “Lyc-O-Mato® contains more of the natural tomato complex than even the whole tomato powder used in this most recent study. Basically, the only compounds missing in this supplement are the tomato's natural water and sugar. Lyc-O-Mato® is about as close as you can get to consuming tomatoes,” said Dr. Nir. “We have always advocated a well-balanced diet as a first line of defense against prostate disease. Our bodies do not manufacture lycopene on their own. Therefore including tomato-based foods in our diet, particularly cooked tomato products like tomato puree or tomato paste, is highly beneficial to lowering this health risk,” Dr. Nir continued. “Supplementation with an all-natural tomato complex provides an alternative when daily intake of tomato products is not possible. “There is a solid body of research showing that supplementation with a premium source of all-natural tomato complex can benefit prostate health. This is the reason why such highly respected manufacturers as Natrol, GNC, Jarrow, Nature's Way, Rexall, Nature's Life, Healthy Origins, and the Vitamin Shoppe all use Lyc-O-Mato® in their lycopene supplements.”
